The Language courses at Pembrokeshire College engage and challenge students and will develop your ability to critically analyse and challenge the use of language. At the same time, you will prepare for higher education at university level in a variety of areas, and gain many transferable skills and academic knowledge.
At A-level, you may choose to study English Language & Literature or English Literature – which both include the study of texts and the production of your own writing.
Enhance your English skills
The English Language and Literature A-level develops literary and linguistic analysis and enables students to become critical, independent readers. It will nurture personal responses to literary and non-literary texts and will allow you to play your strength. The programme includes the study of prose and poetry through the close reading of texts.
The English Literature A-level specifically focuses on Poetry and Drama post 1900; Prose study and creative reading; period and genre study; and poetry and drama. This course will develop your interest in English Literature through reading widely, critically and independently. You will become an informed, independent reader of many texts and gain an understanding of a variety of views about texts and how to read them.

The English Language and Literature programme prepares students for further study at university level in areas such as Literature, linguistics, languages – but also equips you with study skills which will be valued in other areas.
